ALPHA ETA RHO
AHP
Chi Chapter

Who are we?
Alpha Eta Rho is a collegiate, co-ed, professional fraternity founded to bring together students who have a common interest in the field of aviation.

What is the history behind AHP?
The Greek letters for Alpha Eta Rho, AHP, stand for "air." It was founded at the University of Southern California in 1929 to promote and organize an interest in aviation. Today, there are well over 50 active chapters. The Chi Chapter at the University of Illinois was established in 1954 and has remained an active chapter every year since that time.

What does AHP do?
The purpose of the Chi Chapter are:

  • to further the cause of aviation in all its branches
  • to promote contacts between the students of aviation and those engaged in the profession
  • to promote a closer affiliation between the students of aviation for the purpose of education

We meet once every two weeks where we participate in aviation-related activities and invite guest speakers to talk to us about their role in aviation, whether it is a commercial pilot, corporate pilot, or an owner of an airfield. We also engage in fundraisers (selling aviation t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, and window stickers) to raise money to fund our activities, including skydiving, paintball, and our annual trip. In addition, we have been involved in service activities with the Aviation New Student Orientation, Career Night, and working at the Jaycees Haunted House.

Every year we take an aviation-related trip for a weekend. In previous years, we have traveled to Dayton, Ohio where we experienced different physiological effects of flying in an altitude chamber at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as well as touring the Dayton Air Museum. More recently we toured the United facilities at O'Hare International Airport in Chicago and on another trip the American facilities at O'Hare.

Where do we meet?

We normally meet on campus for our bi-weekly meetings. However, sometimes we will meet at an airport or somewhere else depending on the needs of our speakers. Transportation will always be provided to anyone who needs a ride.
